EDIT: this article is out of date, you can check the official Keira3 website for more information.

The creators of Keira2 have recently announced that they are working on a new database editor application for World of Warcraft. This time it’s a Deskop application, and it does not only generate your SQL queries, but allows you to execute them directly into your DB.

A new cross-platform Database Editor

Keira3 is a modern DB editor for WoW 3.3.5, tailored for AzerothCore and available for Windows, Linux and macOS.

With Keira3 you don’t have to know the SQL language in order to change contents: it will generate the SQL queries automatically for you. The SQL code will be displayed, so you can learn, and then you can copy or execute it directly to your database.

This is a complete step-by-step video tutorial created by heyaapl about setting up a World of Warcraft 3.3.5 server – and making it public – using the DigitalOcean, a popular cloud infrastructure provider. In January 2018, DigitalOcean was rated the third-largest hosting company in the world.

The video goes through the entire AzerothCore server setup process starting from scratch, installing the server on a Debian operating system that runs remotely in the DigitalOcean cloud.

The user local operating system used in the video tutorial is Windows but you can also use macOS or any GNU/Linux distribution.

Note: this tutorial is about creating a production WoW server hosted remotely in the cloud. If you are looking for how to setup a local development environment or domestic private server setup in your own machine, you can read this guide instead for Linux and Windows. For macOS users you can read this.

Note2: this tutorial is about creating a WoW private server for World of Warcraft Wrath of The Lich King 3.3.5a (WOTLK). If you look for another WoW version you can have a look at our article comparing different WoW emulators with different WoW versions.

The tutorial covers the following:Continue reading

With its second major release, AzerothCore proved that the mangos/tc-based WoW development is still quite active and interesting in 2019.

What is AzerothCore?

In the last few years, AzerothCore has been dominating the scene of WoW emulation for what concerns the 3.3.5a (wotlk) version. It comes with the best player-experience that none of the Wrath of The Lich King private servers has ever provided before.Continue reading

The WoW login screen is quite heavy, compared to the WoW Classic one. But there is a way to lighten it up.

This is particularly useful if you are a WoW dev and constantly close and reopen your WoW client.

So if you want a lighter login screen that uses less computer-resources, or if you are just a nostalgic about WoW Classic, you can:

  • download the file patch-a.mpq.zip
  • unzip patch-a.mpq
  • move it inside the Data folder of your World of Warcraft client

Now even if you are using an expansion like Wrath of The Lich King (3.3.5a), your WoW login screen will be lighter and will look like the WoW 1.x one.

Even the music will be the WoW Classic one…. oohhhh good old times!
